We are currently recruiting for a part-time Head of Development for a job-share within the department of Marketing and Communications. The role of Head of Development is responsible for delivering the Development strategy in line with the University’s strategic plan and manages and influences all aspects of giving to the University, including the solicitation, acquisition and stewardship of major gifts.
This is an exciting time to join the University of Hertfordshire as we launch our new strategic plan to deliver on our vision of transforming lives by harnessing and developing the potential of our staff, students, business partners and community. This role will play an important part of delivering against that vision by supporting fundraising to support students, teaching and research.
You will source funding from Trusts, Foundations, individuals and corporations then prepare reports and presentations to key stakeholders with recommendations for new activity. You will manage the portfolio of donors and prospects, building and maintaining relationships and meeting with them. Establishing productive working relationships with senior staff within the University is critical to ensuring major gift fundraising is embedded in our activities.
You will advise senior staff about communication with key donors, liaise with Schools to identify key areas of research and projects which need support, and manage the Development Officer.
You will be educated with a degree or equivalent qualification, have significant experience working in the field of Development, and a proven track record of successful fundraising either in the Charity or Higher Education sector, securing major gifts (over £50,000). You’ll demonstrate a proven track record of running successful Development initiatives, and have significant experience in the whole lifecycle of recruitment, development and management of staff. Alongside this you will have experience of budgetary planning, financial management and handling confidential sensitive information.
You will have excellent relationship building skills, backed with written and verbal communication skills including the ability to chair meetings and project groups. You can think strategically, influence others and use exceptional interpersonal skills to be persuasive, creative, and able to motivate others. A team-player, you bring excellent networking and multi-tasking skills.
You will evidence a passion for Development and alumni initiatives, be committed to the highest-quality professional service, and be self-motivated, innovative, creative and resourceful.
This role is 0.6 fte working 22.2 hours per week and 1-year fixed-term contract.
