Sustainable Energy Policy
ERM is seeking to hire a Senior or Principal Consultant to join our Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) team.
SES is built upon the acquisitions of Element Energy and E4tech, providing ERM with first class subject matter experts to assist in our drive to a low carbon future. SES now has over 150 experts in sustainable energy, working on topics such as low carbon transport, hydrogen, fuels, chemicals, energy networks, smart systems, energy policy, buildings, sustainability assessment and innovation projects. We are looking for a policy-focused person to help us address overlapping policy questions in low carbon transport, hydrogen, fuels, chemicals, and CCUS
As the climate change agenda and global interest in the energy transition and a more renewable and circular economy escalate, we are seeing an unprecedented increase in requests for support from organisations trying to understand how to play their part.

The role
We are looking for people to work on policy-related projects in low carbon fuels, hydrogen and CCUS, and the overlap between these. Senior Consultants and Principal Consultants manage small analytical teams and lead the delivery of innovative, high impact projects on low carbon energy. They carry out and oversee research and quantitative analysis of diverse technologies, assess markets and policies , and provide clients with thought leadership, insightful conclusions and strategic advice. Staff at both levels are expected to contribute significantly to work winning and business development activities.

Key responsibilities of this role include:
Participating in and managing projects on sustainable energy, often with a focus on policy aspects of the project, and how these interact with economics, technology choices and sustainability
Keeping up to date with the evolution of energy policy in key sectors and regions
Participating in or leading proposal writing;
Identifying business leads and prospects;
Communicating with clients on project and business development matters;
Contributing to the development and implementation of company-wide and sector strategies, including thought leadership on the evolution of energy policy;
Contributing to internal and external communication activities, including participation in conferences.
You will need to demonstrate the following:
Specific expertise is sought in sustainable energy policy, either through study or through prior relevant experience in a consulting or industry context , ideally related to low carbon fuels, hydrogen and/or CCUS , and preferably with an EU or US focus
3+ years of relevant work experience
A n excellent academic background in a numerate subject ( e.g. science, engineering, economics, ideally to postgraduate level) is essential
Proven commitment to sustainability
Structured approach to and appetite for problem-solving
Technical ability combined with commercial acumen
Ability to motivate and lead teams and potentially line manage individuals
Clear written and spoken communication for a range of audiences
Fluent English, other languages welcome
