Job Title: Locum Childcare Lawyer

Location: London with Hybrid Working of 1 Day a Week Office Presence

Salary: A Negotiable Competitive Daily Rate Based on Previous Experience

Venn Group’s specialist legal recruitment team are in collaboration with a London based Local Authority in their search for a Locum Childcare Lawyer. This role offers a chance to provide representation, advice and undertake research in all aspects of Childcare law.

The role shall be for a period of 3 months with the option for a rolling contract dependant upon performance, assessed on a case-by-case basis. This role requires once a week office presence but will consider all-remote applications on a case-by-case basis.

The ideal candidate will be either Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx with a strong track record of working within Local Government within the Childcare legal department.

Duties shall include:

1. Legal Advocacy: Managing legal files for various clients such as local authorities, housing associations, and schools. Providing legal advice, representation, and research on children’s social care, covering areas such as public law care proceedings, child protection, adoption, fostering, and public law duties concerning children in need and looked after children. Assisting in education matters, including special educational needs advice
2. Flexible Engagement: Being available to attend meetings and court sessions that might occur ensuring comprehensive legal representation
3. Strategic Advisory Role: Offering proactive and politically sensitive advice to officers and members, even in public forums, contributing to informed decision making
4. Team Mentorship: Providing guidance, mentoring, and training to less experienced team members, fostering their growth and development
5. Senior Role Support: Being ready to step in and support senior lawyers whenever necessary by taking on their responsibilities and duties

This role comes with a competitive hourly rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience. Applications from people with relevant Local Government experienced are welcomed even if the job specification does not align entirely with your experience
