Facility Manager Part Time

We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Facility Manager to join a renowned research establishment in Cambridge. In the role you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a biofacility, providing a comprehensive service to facilitate research and promote the ethical use of animals in research. You will manage a team of technicians and as NACWO, oversee the regulated and non-regulated work conducted within the facility.

Additional duties include providing advice and guidance in regard to Project Licences and study plans to ensure allocation of resources and compliance with Home Office regulations. There is a relocation package available for candidates interested in moving to Cambridge, as well as a bonus available for the successful post-holder.

Basic Requirements:

• IAT membership or equivalent qualification
• NACWO qualification is essential
• Extensive experience working with with laboratory animals including experience in all aspects of management and maintenance of an animal unit
• Knowledge to advise on best practice
• Experience carrying out Home Office licenced procedures including aseptic surgical techniques
• Management/Supervisory experience including training and motivating staff
• Experience keeping a complex animal facility functional to the standards required by the Home Office
• Familiarity with administrative processes for monitoring and ordering of stock; budgets and financial recharging; health, safety, and biosecurity; and Home Office compliance processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of technicians who are responsible for the care and welfare of animals
• Undertake the role of NACWO and contribute to appropriate meetings within the facility
• Compile necessary information and documents such as usage figures, breeding programmes, and consumable usage in relation to facility expenditure
• Supervise and evaluate work activities for technical, husbandry, animal welfare, equipment, and building maintenance procedures
• First point of contact for project and personal licence holders and provide advice
• Liaise between researchers and technical staff to handle researcher requirements and resolve complex issues
• Recruit, organise and manage staff within the facility. Be the first point of contact for staff grievance and disciplinary matters
• Responsible for completion of all administrative processes
• Provide an introduction to working practices and standards within the facility
• Ensure health and safety of the facility by implementing and reviewing safety documentation
