Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship
Our Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeships are aimed at people who have a passion for learning and innovation.
Increasingly automated. Ever more sophisticated. This is the future our vision holds for our vehicles. As a Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice, you will implement technology solutions aligned to your pathway, to develop new products and services and increase productivity using digital technologies. JLR is a world leader in engineering – we make incredible luxury vehicles. Our aspirations are no different for Digital and Technology. Our people, our teams and our culture are at the heart of everything we do.
Software Engineering with Data pathway
Software is a key component of our future cars as the technology in vehicles continues to increase to meet customers’ evolving needs. Before the customer enters the car, technology identifies the key fob and their phone to recognise them and allow access; during their journey, software aids their driving with stability and assistance systems and provides a welcoming and refined user experience through in-vehicle infotainment. In short, software gives us our edge. It makes our thinking come alive in the real world. This pathway will show you how to design, build and test ground-breaking software that really delivers. You’ll also learn how to integrate engineering principles that deliver superior analysis, development and built-in security.
Along the way, you could work in any of the following Product Engineering functional areas: Digital Products Platform (DPP), Engineering Propulsion (EP) or Engineering Research (ER). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.
Digital Product Platform (DPP) – Gaydon
DPP delivers smart, connected, clean vehicles through creativity and design innovation and offers opportunities in a variety of digital disciplines including complex systems design and electronic hardware and software creation. The features you may expect, such as cabin interior functions or infotainment but also technologies such as connectivity, off-board processing and mobile app design to provide a wider range of customer experience.
The projects worked on will cover a wide scope, as most vehicle functions have a software element including propulsion and energy management systems as well as active suspension control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment and convenience features such as interior cabin controls.
You could be involved in many different projects from day one, including automation and infrastructure. You could be part of a team implementing a cloud-based infrastructure providing the tools and environment for large software teams to work within.
Or you could be working in low-level software development ensuring the in-vehicle computer systems have the best balance of performance. Low-Level boot charts, balancing processor core loading and refining fast boot processes are areas you will focus on to produce the best in-vehicle performance.
Engineering Research (ER) – National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC), University of Warwick
Engineering Research is an exciting department to work in. You will be involved in looking into the future and trying to map what is going to be happening in the world as we identify unmet customer needs and evaluate the technology landscape to deliver innovative products and services using cutting edge technologies including advanced software engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, cyber security, AR/ VR and more.
We have access to amazing collaborative spaces, a large engineering hall, multiple laboratories and workshops that help us create proof of concepts, prove out our theories, the technologies we are exploring and their scalability for automotive application.
Engineering Propulsion (EP)- Whitley, Gaydon
Our Propulsion Engineering team are leaders in the design, test, validation and certification of world-class propulsion systems aimed at delivering driving experiences that our customers will love for life. The scope of our propulsion systems is far-reaching and includes major commodity groups such as electric drive units, energy storage devices, engines, transmissions and drivelines, complemented by software system integration, calibration and control strategies.
The Propulsion software engineering team is made up of a diverse set of skill sets ranging from control systems engineering, calibration engineering, integration engineering and data science to project management. As such you will get the opportunity to work with and learn from a wide variety of perspectives, whilst developing skills related to using vehicle modelling and simulation to solving real-world engineering problems and focusing on developing data skills critical to our business.
Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) – Gaydon, Solihull
Our GME team supports the projects and innovation that enables our JLR Reimagine Strategy across our global locations. Join us and you will be responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of manufacturing facilities and processes to build the modern luxury vehicles of the future. You will be working with stakeholders across our enterprise including product engineering, procurement and manufacturing operations to implement new products, processes and equipment whilst driving future technology development.
You will join us in the VCATS (Vehicle Configuration and Test System) who support the electrical testing of the car and the validation of vehicle feature performance. The VCATS process downloads software to electronic modules on the vehicle and configures them to the correct vehicle specification, making the car saleable and ensuring it complies with market legislation. You will work on delivering the Range Rover and Jaguar projects test systems where you will gain an understanding of Electrical Test System Right First Time, System Hardware Specification and delivery, Cost Analysis and Value for money workstreams, supplier selection and Technical Levelling, vehicle Test Sequence Software Coding and Feasibility Studies.
Your Education Provider
