BD Foods joined AAK International in 2019 as part of the Global Foodservice Group. Now AAK BD Foods, the site is a producer of tailor-made restaurant quality meal accompaniments and boasts a portfolio of over 3,000 products. With the ethos “Chefs not machines”, quality and innovation are at the heart of what they do. With its purpose-built manufacturing site based in St Leonards on Sea, the Company produces solution-based chilled, ambient, and frozen products in a variety of pack formats for the food service sector.
BD Foods are seeking a Quality Technologist to join the Technical Team. The role is key to developing and maintaining the Food Safety & Quality System within the business. This role will support the Production and Warehouse Departments in achieving and maintaining the highest Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practice standards. There will also be a customer facing element to the role in responding to customer enquiries and the completion of specifications and self-audit questionnaires. This position is ideal for someone who wants to development themselves and their technical career.
Responsibilities
- To carry out calibration testing of inspection, measuring and test equipment.
- To carry out routine glass and brittle plastic audits.
- To carry out routine finished product testing, EOL product testing and record to the standard required.
- To carry out routine product sampling according to the schedule.
- To routinely carry out raw material testing to the required standard.
- To assist in the maintenance of the Raw Material Specifications and supplier accreditation certificates.
- To update, maintain and use the Nutricalc System.
- To support and assist the Technical Manager with the internal auditing as required.
- To take routine swabs to verify cleaning and allergen cleaning is to the required standard.
- To ensure all records are filed accurately and methodically to the required standard.
- To ensure the collection, preparation, and dispatch of samples for microbiological testing.
- To carry out routine quality audits of key control and critical control areas in the manufacturing process.
- To monitor and record the temperatures in chilled & frozen storage areas.
- To carry out shelf-life testing of final products and maintain relevant files.
- To ensure the collection, preparation, and dispatch of samples for microbiological testing.
- To participate in the investigation of customer complaints.
About you
- Level 2 Food Hygiene or above
- Internal auditing
- HACCP course (ideally)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to plan and manage own workload.
- Self-motivating
- Good Team skills
- Good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
- Good organisational skills
