Mckenzie Vets, Alexandria- Registered Veterinary Nurse
Salary up to £32,000 DOE
We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our fantastic team at Mckenzie Vets.
What you will be doing
The role is very varied with a good variety of anaesthesia, inpatient care, theatre, nurse consults, pharmacy, aiding the vets, taking blood samples, placing iv catheters, running lab tests, laser clinics, socialisation visits, home visits etc – everybody takes an equal share, so every day is different.
We are keen to try to progress our nursing team in doing procedures such as suturing and other Schedule 3 operations. Two of our Nurses are currently doing certificates in Anaesthesia and Medical Nursing and we are very supportive of developing any special interests. We are a Training Practice and appreciate having both experienced RVNs and student vet nurses in our team. There are normally no reception duties in this role.
About the rota
Ideally this would be a full-time position working over 4 days a week with the same day off every week for a great work-life balance, plus an equal share of Saturday mornings. There is no out of hours or Sundays, and there is an early finish the week after a Saturday. We would also consider part-time or flexible hours for the right candidate.
Want to know more about us?
Mckenzie Vets is a long-established practice in Alexandria, located at the edge of the beautiful Loch Lomond National Park but within easy reach of Glasgow so whether you prefer the Great Outdoors or the lights of the Big City, there is something for everyone.
Our patients are very varied as well! We are a small animal practice, but this includes some exotics such as small furries, ferrets, birds, reptiles, and the odd otter or turtle from our local Sea Life Centre. As a rural practice we are lucky to have a fantastic variety of dog and cat breeds, of all different shapes and sizes and particularly lovely clients, many of whom have been with us for very many years. We work hard to build up relationships with both patient and client, operate under Fear Free principles and are a Silver Award Cat Friendly Clinic and RCVS GP Vet Accredited Practice and are proud of the level of care we are able to offer.
The practice is well equipped including digital radiography, ultrasound, K-laser, dental radiography, multiparameter monitoring, infusion pumps and syringe driver, excellent lab and microscope.
Meet the team
We pride ourselves in having a happy, supportive team who look after each other as well as our patients and enjoy having a laugh along the way. We have 4 RVNs, 1 SVN who is due to qualify soon, a very experienced VCA, 5 vets, a Practice Manager and a team of receptionists and every single member of the team is greatly valued. We take part in fun things outside of work as well – recently we hosted a stall at Top Dogs at Lomond Shores (just an excuse to pat lots of dogs really!) and took part in the Kilt Walk and Trossachs Big Hike for Street Vet and Cancer Research. We are currently planning a get together with a hypnotherapist to aid us all in coping with stress in life!
