We have an exciting opportunity on the Cambridge Dictionary team.
Our mission is to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning, and research at the highest international levels of excellence.
We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
About the role
As Senior Manager, Data Architecture and Analytics, you will work closely with members of a highly collaborative, agile, and ambitious international team to support and enable significant business growth and transformation of the Cambridge Dictionary website as a product itself and as a driver of new business for the emerging Direct to Learner (D2L) sector.
As a leader on the D2L product management team, you will manage the data structure and database systems for the Cambridge dictionary, the Cambridge corpus, and consumer products; the processes whereby content is composed for output to platforms and products; the measurement of the performance of those products; and the lifetime data for users of those products.
This is a specialised, senior role requiring a deep theoretical knowledge of computational linguistics, the technical ability to configure and manage systems in which both linguistic data and user data are housed and manipulated, and the ability to analyse and report on complex data to inform product decisions for the dictionary website and consumer products.

About you
You have a degree in a field relevant to linguistic data analysis, ideally an advanced degree in computational linguistics. You are familiar with dictionaries and corpus linguistics. You have experience with content management systems, preferably in an educational publishing environment – familiarity with English Language Teaching publishing is a plus.
You bring expertise in the structuring of XML data, DTDs, and XSLT transformations for complex data; in database creation and maintenance; SQL; and corpus creation. You are proficient in Excel, web analytics, and Perl scripting; knowledge of Python is desirable. You understand HMTL, CSS, Javascript, and other web technologies and how they interact, including SEO.
You are an experienced manager and strong communicator, with great interpersonal skills with staff and stakeholders alike, whether it’s with colleagues, partners, clients, or vendors. On a practical level, you’re a pragmatic and resourceful problem-solver. You’re comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, making decisions quickly to adapt the roadmap to changing priorities.
