Superintendent of Epping Forest (Assistant Director)
Salary £71,040 – £81,100
Location: Essex
Managed by the City of London Corporation, Epping Forest stands as a historic and ecological treasure on the edge of London. With a legacy that eclipses even the UK’s National Parks, the forest’s guardianship since 1878 has been a testament to its value for public enjoyment and ecological preservation. With 11,000 acres of verdant landscapes Epping Forest serves as a sanctuary for wildlife and was a haven for over 10 million visitors in 2023. We are on the search for a Superintendent of Epping Forest, who will take on the mantle of preserving this ancient forest, ensuring both its conservation and its capacity to enchant visitors for generations to come.
This pivotal role demands an individual who not only has a deep-rooted passion for nature and heritage but also possesses the strategic acumen and leadership finesse to navigate the multifaceted challenges and opportunities of maintaining such an iconic green space. As our Superintendent you will spearhead the Corporation s efforts in this area, leading a dedicated team and overseeing the strategic leadership, governance, operational management, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement for the portfolio.
As we press forward into 2024, with a focus on executing our new Corporate Plan, your role will be instrumental in driving the objectives forward, especially in areas of conservation, estate management, and community engagement. Your adeptness in handling complex issues will be crucial as you work to support diverse user groups, promote sustainable use of the Forest, and foster strong relationships with the numerous charities, local authorities, and stakeholders involved.
In collaboration with the senior leadership team and reporting directly to Emily Brennan, our Natural Environment Director, you will be influential in shaping decisions that affect the entire forest landscape. Your analytical prowess and innovative spirit will be key in understanding the nuances of landscape management and in addressing the needs of both the environment and the population that cherishes it.
Join us in shaping the legacy of Epping Forest, ensuring it remains a beacon of natural beauty and communal life. This is an incredible opportunity to be a custodian of history, a leader in conservation, and a champion for public enjoyment and wellbeing.
