Here’s what you will be doing

Right now we are looking for a Technical Development Technician to work within the Product Assurance Team in a variety of roles to ensure that customers, both internal and external are provided with technical support on a range of metering product offerings.

You will ensure that customers, both internal and external, are provided with metering equipment solutions that complies with the technical, safety and quality requirements traceable to National Standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Product Assurance Team to ensure the team successfully delivers across all areas of its activities.
  • Active support of the Smart Metering Project through smart product evaluation.
  • The undertaking of metering solution demonstrations to E.ON staff.
  • Assist the evaluation of electricity metering products including support communication devices.
  • Assist in the development of Work Instructions.
  • Assist in the creation and application of tariff structures, field staff documentation and customer read sheets.
  • Represent and attend meetings on behalf of the Product Assurance Team with manufacturers.
  • Assist in the training for appropriate staff.
  • Liaise with meter manufacturers in understanding the performance limits of their product.
  • Assist in activities that deliver to highest safety and quality standards at all times.
  • Assist in the testing of existing, new and refurbished metering related assets.
  • Assist in the production of technical data and reports.
  • Liaise with suppliers on technical issues.
  • The post holder will be responsible for identifying and analysing defects to establish defect relationships, commonalities, cause & effect, severity and impact.
  • Raising defects with manufacturers and progressing the defect.
  • The post holder will be responsible for identification and logging of defects.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the communications on defects found, analysed, resolved.

What we need from you

  • Understanding of electronic product function testing and a demonstrable ability to follow test scripts.
  • Ability to assemble and test electronic equipment at circuit board level.
  • PC literacy and software competency, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively at all levels.
  • A systematic and methodical approach to product evaluation.
  • Have the ability to plan and organise their activities effectively and handle/deliver on multiple tasks within the agreed timescales.
  • Have the drive and energy to succeed and create excellence in all aspects of the role.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead, as well as being a team player.

It would be great if you have

  • Working safely with Electricity.
  • Working knowledge of uSmart and UIT environments.
  • Working Knowledge of A&J and Sentinel Test Tools.
  • Meter Fitting/installation experience ( Gas & Elec) (MACOPA).
  • Ability to assemble and test electronic equipment at circuit board level.
  • Experience of working with and /or testing complex electronic devices.
  • In depth understanding of SMETS.
  • In depth understanding of GBCS.
  • In depth understanding of Zigbee and other comms technologies.
  • Software editing and development.
  • Meter, Hub and IHD expected behaviours.
